Plant Reports- Sprouting Seeds in a Glove!

I usually dedicate the months of April and May to doing many non-fiction activities with my class. We do a lot with plants, insects & animals during these months. Last week we planted sunflower seeds. Next week, we will be sprouting our fruit and veggie seeds in food handler gloves. I am lucky enough to be one of the few classrooms in my school that has windows. Although these windows are at the top of the ceiling and we can't see out of them, the sunlight that shines through makes having these windows well worth it! Plus I get to use my windows for sprouting seeds- can't beat that!

We will be using the scientific method to complete our plant reports. If you would like a "kid friendly" way to teach the scientific method as well as complete non-fiction plant reports then this unit may be just what you need! This plant unit is more than just report writing. There is a seed tracking journal to track the progress of the sprouting seeds, a life cycle page, seed diagram, fruit/vegetable fact sheets, and much more!

Butterflies!

It is that time of year again...caterpillars have arrived! Each year in April our Kindergarten classes order caterpillars. This is a very exciting time for our students. They love to watch these little guys go through the lifecycle and become beautiful butterflies.

This year I wanted a fun way to record our findings with our caterpillars. I decided to create an observation journal to record our journey with our butterflies. We will be completing this butterfly observation journal.

Sight Word Medals- Motivating Students to Learn their Sight Words

I am always looking for fun ways to motivate my students to practice and learn their sight words. When students in my class learn all of their sight words they get a popcorn bag with a can of soda pop and popcorn.

This has been motivational, but I was looking for something they can keep at their desk with them as a constant reminder and motivator. I came up with this:

Sight Word Medals

Every student gets a "Trophy Case" to store their sight word medals in. I check off the words they know on their trophy case as they learn and earn their medals. They LOVE this! I also have students cut their own medal to build their fine motor cutting skills. They also get to color their medals.

Holiday Labeling Mega Pack

I hope you are all enjoying your holiday break. My Kindergarten Kiddos LOVE to label. They label anything and EVERYTHING! I just love reading their phonetic writing! This pack includes labeling for all of the major holidays! I have included pages for New Year's, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, the Patriotic Holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, & Christmas.

I mostly use these sheets as morning work or center work. I have my students label the drawing, color the drawing, color the border (this is a must in my class :-), and then turn the paper over and write sentences using the words they labeled.

Election Day Unit

I am excited to share with you my Election Day Pack that I will be using with my class next week. This pack includes 46 pages of FUN!
