Currently July & Common Core "I Can" Statements

I am linking up with Farley for her Currently July.

I just finished up on my Kindergarten "I Can" statements. These cards cover every Common Core Standard for Kindergarten.

The beauty of these cards is that every standard is listed on the top right hand corner of each card along with the standards description (kid friendly where applicable) and each card is FULLY ILLUSTRATED to go along with the standard.

These cards are going to make my life much easier this school year. I won't have to write the standard on the board as I previously did. Also, these cards will help students take ownership of their learning.

I am currently working on the First Grade Common Core "I Can" Statement cards and then I will move on to Second Grade. My mom teaches second grade and I promised her I would make these cards. Be on the look out for these cards!

I have made these cards in various colors and themes. I am adding more this week. Check them out by clicking on any of the pictures below.

Bloglovin & Monday Made It

Please be sure to follow me on Bloglovin. You can follow by clicking on the Bloglovin icon on the right hand side of my blog.

I'm linking up with 4th Grade Frolics from Monday Made it to share what I made this week.
I made business cards that I will stick a magnet on the back to give to parents. I made these on the Prints Made Easy website. It was very simple and their prices are not bad at all. I purchased round sticker magnets to place on the back of them at Wal-Mart.

Five for Friday- Earth Day, Animal Reports & More!

Linking up with Doodle Bugs- Five for Friday

Ahhhh...It's Friday! This week sure did fly by. Next Tuesday begins our ABC countdown- The last 26 days of Kindergarten. You think my kiddos would be excited, instead they are a bit sad to start. They told me they want to skip Z day (Zip up your bags and Zoom home for a wonderful summer). They say they will miss Kindergarten soooo much- Too cute! :-)

This week we have continued to journal our observations in our butterfly journals- We are getting a bit impatient waiting for our butterflies to emerge!

We learned all about the three R's- Recycling, Reducing, & Reusing. Now my Kindergarteners want to recycle EVERYTHING & ANYTHING!
If you like these Earth Day headbands- Grab them here FREE for next year!

We just had to add a recycling poem to our poetry notebooks
Our sunflower seeds started to grow- Time to take them home to plant!
Next week we will start our vegetable/fruit plant unit- Sprouting seeds in a glove.
We have also been working on our non-fiction animal reports- Check out the detail in this picture!

Animal habitats were due and look amazing!
And finally we ended our week with a nice cold popsicle!

Let's Get Acquainted Linky- Favorite Classroom Area

Every Sunday Latoya from Flying into First Grade hosts her Let's Get Acquainted Linky with a new topic to blog about.

This weeks topic is favorite classroom areas. If you are like me, you spend countless hours setting up your classroom each school year and making it as cozy, fun, and educational as possible. I often spend waaaay too much money every summer on things for my classroom. I swear if I buy anything else my principal may not hire me back!! I must admit I have a ton of stuff in my classroom (can we say HORDER), but hey it's Kindergarten so why not!

I did decide that this summer I would do things differently- No more buying anything for the physical environment of my classroom, but instead I will spend my money on resources for the classroom. I want to redo my classroom centers for math and reading. With the implementation of the Common Core Standards, I plan to amp up my centers to align with them. If you have any good center ideas please send them my way!

Okay, enough of my rambling, back to the linky...

Five for Friday & Flashback Friday

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Five for Friday and Teaching Maddeness Flashback Friday.

Here is the review of my week:

This past week was a short one. We were on spring break the week before and we had Monday off.

The kids colored Easter eggs, made bunny hats and had a sight word Easter egg hunt in the classroom . We also read There was an Old Lady that Swallowed a Chick. We completed a sequencing activity and chick craft.

We are headed to a ranch for a field trip on Monday. We spent the rest of the week learning about ranch animals. We learned the difference between a ranch and a farm. We will see emus on our field trip, so we decided to make an emu craft.

I had 4-5 kids absent each day this past week, so I didn't want to start place value without them. We decided to review addition and subtraction and other math concepts we learned throughout the year. Students chose math centers to review the concepts we reviewed.

I finished off my Friday by finally completing my sight word medal units..well almost- I am still working on the first grade sight words unit. Check them out here (click on each picture):
