180 Kindergarten Math Journal Prompts- Common Core Based

Are you looking for a way to spice up your math lessons? Math journals can do just that! Math journaling has become quite popular. I am always looking for ways to improve my math teaching. I wanted to incorporate math journals into my teaching last year, but just never got around to it. This year will be much different! I have created 180 common core based math journal prompts- One for each day of the school year!

I plan to use math journals at least three days a week if not more. I also use poetry notebooks/journals (post coming soon on this) in my classroom as well as science notebooks/journals. I like to set my journals up the same way- Kindergarteners need consistency!

I will be using composition books. I set them up like this:

Students either place the label prompt or a paper cut-out of the prompt on the left hand side of their journal. They date their journal at the top (I am all about having my kindergarteners date their own material- Anything and Everything they do!!!). All of their work will be shown on the right hand side.

Here is an example:

I am very excited to start using these journal prompts this upcoming school year. These 180 journal prompts are available on my  TPT and Teachers Notebook stores.

  1. This is a great idea! I have used math journals by having them make 4 boxes in the paper and then we would "solve" 4 math word problems. My problem was that they did not have a written copy of the problem, having these that hey glue inside their journals would solve that problem.
    Good job!

  2. I like the idea of the 4 math word problems on one page. I will have to try that with the math journals this school year. :)

  4. Thank for sharing! Do you start these at the beginning of the year? If so, how do the kiddos who are unable to recognize numbers and count do with these?
