Writer's Toolbox

Before school let out for the summer, a colleague of mine had mentioned the idea of a writer's toolbox. I thought the idea was great, so I came up with this. I am going to use school supply boxes to house each student's "Writer's Toolbox". Inside the toolbox will be a spaceman spacer from Really Good Stuff, pencil, highlighter, eraser, sticky notes, mini dry erase marker & mini eraser (I picked these up from Target yesterday- So cute!), and a mini writing office that I am working on putting together. I made cute labels to place on top of the supply box. If there is anything else anyone can think of to place in the writer's toolbox,  please share. :)

  2. My kindergartner is having trouble using his spaceman at school. He's left handed and is basically tripping over it with his pencil. And now that I'm thinking about the mechanics of using a spaceman lefthanded, I can't figure out how he could use it properly unless we let him write from right to left across the page:} It's such a cute little device, but I'm thinking of asking the teacher if she can ditch it. Have you had any success getting it to work for lefties? I had no idea there were issues in teaching lefties to write, and now am learning about it 3/4 of the way through kindergarten as my child struggles to form his letters. Better late than never I guess.

  3. He can put space man down to mark the spacing, touch his pencil where to start the next word, then move spaceman out of the way. Definitely a challenge. But it's same idea as using a finger to mark the space.
